Kelly would tell you she is from Alaska, though she has lived here in North Carolina since 1996. She was raised in Soldotna Alaska and has strong ties to the area through her love of outdoors from hiking, sightseeing, fishing and any other outdoor activity. As a youth Kelly vowed to leave the cold and find her way on her own. In 1993 she left AK and landed at John Brown University in AR. The next few years traveling and applying to colleges seemed a routine thing as her new husband was transferred almost annually from Phoenix, to Newport, to Charlotte and finally Raleigh.
